Mark your calendars for our third annual Thanksgiving Food Drive on Saturday, November 8th from 10:00am until 12:00pm! We’re partnering with United Community (UC) again this season to provide food for needy families in our local community. Last year we collected and assembled 116 bags of food and donated over $1,800 via grocery gift cards. While that’s impressive, it’s second to the joy our members and families felt as we became God’s hands from grocery store to families in need.
We will follow the same process this year, but with a few differences. First, you can pick up a grocery list in the Narthex, at the church office, online at the UC website, or see the below pdf attachment. Note that the list is different this year as UC is adjusting their drive to accommodate the preferences and tastes of the people they serve. Second, UC wants us to gather the food in bulk instead of assembling meals in bags. Needy families will get and fill their bags at the UC food pantry. So, bring your items to the church on November 8th where we will have an assembly line to sort and arrange the items in special boxes (and indulge in fellowship goodies as well).
Finally, we are not collecting grocery gift cards this year. Instead, UC is asking supporters like Nativity to become food drive sponsors with donations of money that UC will use to purchase and supply perishable items. So, based on last year’s generous gift card donation (but understanding we are living in challenging times), we are pledging to be a $1,500 sponsor this year (going over that amount is okay…). You can donate money to our pledge via our website, the Sunday collection plate (write the earmark on your envelope or check), or the collection plate we will have in plain sight on November 8th.
The Thanksgiving Food Drive has become a hallmark event that supports our objective to minister to people in our community who are facing food insecurity. For the last two seasons our generosity has shown how a small church can be mighty when we are guided by the Holy Spirit and acting as God’s hands. Please open your hearts and participate again this year!
